Favorite neighbor and good friend Pat Pettus treated me to dinner at Pho' (pronounced Fuh) Boston, 144 Shield Street off New Britain Avenue in West Hartford. For an appetizer, we split an order of Goi Cuon Chay (#110). One order consists of two giant Spring rolls (vegetable and tofu) which are tightly wrapped with a soft, cool, translucent "skin" rice flour wrapper with peanut sauce on the side. For the main course (Pat ordered for me), we had Pho Chay (#111), a deliciously fresh rice noodle soup with tofu and fresh vegetables. The soup's garnish, consisting of fresh lime wedges, tiny red and green peppers, mung bean sprouts and Thai basil is served on the side so you can add to your bowl as much of these tasty condiments as you desire. The soup is served with chop sticks and a spoon. Our beverage, Che Ba Mau (#15b), was a Tri-colors (sic) bean pudding with a pina-colada flavored base and unusual textures -- red beans and bright green bean strips -- layered in the tall glass. Pat tells me this drink is usually prepared for children, but I loved it! Afterwards, we slowly perused the aisles of A Dong's market (just a few stores down) where I purchased the ingredients to make Pho Chay and Goi Cuon Chay at home - even the rice "skin" wrappers! What a wonderful dining experience. Thanks, Pat!! It would be interesting to try the Boston Pho Pho Pasteur on Newbury Street in Boston.!!

I view a Blog as a sort of cento, a literary work, especially a poem, composed of parts taken from works of other authors. Thanks to Mama (Anita L. Castaldi) for this link [ From Latin cento (patchwork).]A.Word.A.Day--cento(SEN-to) noun
